Debut album from the eighteen piece Cardiff rap troupe. The GLC claim influences through their modifications of songs from artists such as So Solid Crew, The Streets and...Paul Gascoigne. Tracks tackle topics such as their Welsh heritage, irrelevance of American rappers, gun control and the allure of drugs (the last of which is a recurring theme throughout). Technically proficient but with a definite tongue in cheek. Atlantic. 2004. * Please note this UK pressing features the same track listing as the US edition, Straight Outta Newport but does features different artwork.

Here r my track ratings
1. The Maninfesto- Intro to who they r using comedy. Glyn Williams
is a welsh coach company to anyone who wonders what it is when it
comes up in the skit! 9/10
2. Self Suicide- Amazingly cool and catchy! the tune sounded
familiar to me when I heard it. 9.5/10
3. Guns dont kill people rappers do- 1st GLC track I heard and was
1 which convinced me to buy it but not as good now. I also rapped
it for charity! 9/10
4. Half Man Half Machine- Best on album! Funny as hell!!!! Still
listen to this at least once a day! 12/10
5. Roller Disco- I like this song because of the beats and it takes
in a trip back in time when u listen to it! It has less swear words
than the other songs! 9.5/10
6. Soap Bar- Catchy and a bit odd! How can u smoke soap? I like it
though. 9/10
7. Billy Webbs Lament- Stupid skit which actually can be listened
to along with Your Mothers Got A P**is but I choose not to.
5/10
8. Your Mothers Got A P**is- Catchy funny and rude!!! Dont listen
to if easily offended though! 9.5/10
9. The Maggot- Not bad but not great. 1st not amazing song on the
album! Think its got good lyrics though. 7.5/10
10. You Knows I Loves You- Amazing RnB song! Funny in some places!
GLC give u a trip back to 1987 showing what love was like back
then! 10/10
11. Leeroy Fashion Lament- Crappy skit. Worst on album. 3/10
12. 21 ounces- Parody of 21 seconds by So Solid Crew. I like the
beats as well! 9/10
13. Time to make a change- Good end but not what I thought. Beats
and lyrics r good but not up to the standard of the others.
8.5/10
My verdict is I love this album! BUY NOW!!!!!!!!!!! I'm also from
Newport, where GLC r from in Wales!!!!! Just buy! I'm gonna buy
their new album as soon as I get the money and when its out! These
blokes make me proud to be from Newport!

I Love This Album!Reviewed by C. Haydon, 2005-02-02
I haven't stopped playing this album since I bought it. I absolutely love it. It's extremely funny and I hear something new every time I listen to it. They have the most beautiful welsh accents, which I could just listen to all day. My favourite track is The Maggot, closely followed by Self Suicide, The Manifesto, Half Man Half Machine, Soap Bar and Your Mother's Got A Penis! To answer the late, great Frank Zappa "Does Humor Belong In Music"? YES, it most definitely does.
